Carport or garage, which makes more sense?

We have also left the garage open at night or accidentally left the key sticking outside at night. Our side door to the garage was also completely unlocked for several years. No problem at all, with the people who live in the residential area. However, that changed a bit when houses were broken into on two consecutive nights.

The people living next to you rarely break into your place though :-)

Your statement is nonsense. Garage closed - table stays put. With a carport, you might have to fold it up and put it away or you run the risk of having two of them there the next day. By the way... no, it's not living space because of that. Neither heated nor used as living space in any way. Just dry, covered, and lockable and also usable as a double garage within a very short time, even in summer, 95% of the time.

Right. That's why the area is completely irrelevant, no matter how safe you feel. The danger is always there that a gang of thieves will roam through the country.

Disadvantage of garage door: 1. Cost 2. Time to open the door electrically. In my opinion negligible if electric.

Advantage 1. Car is better protected. Especially martens are really annoying. 2. No leaves, dirt, etc. blow in. Especially a problem with closed carports 3. If I want to store something there, I can do so without worries.

Can be added...

We have a garage with a door into the house and think it’s great... but everyone is different

So I have to stand up for a garage in any form here. I used to park the car on the side of the street and there were constant problems: minor accidents, dirt AND those martens!! They were the most annoying problem. When we then built our own home, it was actually clear to me right away: There must be a lockable garage next to the house! A carport was out of the question. already summed it up correctly: Surely there are advantages and disadvantages to a garage or a garage door, but the advantages definitely outweigh the disadvantages for me. I would like to add that it is also possible to use the garage as an enclosed space, e.g. for celebrations. Since we have had really great experiences with our concrete garage, I can only give a recommendation. Just take a look at the many offers from garage providers. There are now really affordable, simply constructed garages. Here I can recommend our garage manufacturer REKERS - the top address from the north!

What do you think? How have you decided by now?
