Hello everyone,

nice that some of you earn so much money. I am not jealous of anyone, I probably studied the wrong thing. I would also like to earn more money.

But I can only say what I have already written here: 3000€ net is a good salary. Just as an example, here is the tariff table of IG Metall:

A university graduate enters EG 9 or 10, the tariff also specifies a maximum of 28% performance bonus. These salaries are all based on a 35-hour week. Plus tariff special allowances. That means the salary can of course increase. There are plenty of people who earn more than 4000 or even more. But you always look at the average... and that looks quite different!

what do you do for a living? Maybe I'll change, or send my husband to you

Of course, 3T€ net is a good salary - I just think that some people don't realize that this is not very difficult to achieve for academics in engineering professions. The average for academics across all industries (so including non-STEM areas) will certainly be lower, but that was already the case 30 years ago.

I believe that there is indeed an awareness of this. But you and some others may have tunnel vision because you keep focusing on engineers, IT specialists, and the like. However, the majority of people are not exactly that. I myself am also among those who earn more; but most academics earn significantly less and there are enough who have hardly good job prospects in their desired profession – most do not complain about it, because money is not everything.

I am in management of a large industrial corporation. And I also consider €3000 a very good salary and absolutely do not believe that the salary is directly related to the employee's diligence or willingness to perform. I just objected to calling €3000 a top salary that you cannot legally reach.

And yes, only academics work in my area of responsibility.

I agree with you

Still, I have to smile a bit. As a manager in a large industrial corporation, you actually have enough on your plate. And you can’t really be surfing a forum in the middle of the day hihi

Do you even still have an overview of what you are discussing?
I have the impression that some are talking about an average income of the high earners.

According to the Federal Statistical Office: The average monthly gross income of private households amounted to 4101 euros in 2014.
