I would think carefully about this attitude. Every house purchase costs money, a lot of money, real estate transfer tax, notary, land register, possibly a realtor, moving. And there are people for whom a house means more than just a shell. They have invested money, they have invested time. They have designed the house the way they like it. They have designed the plot and garden the way they like it. They have built friendships in the neighborhood. Do you really want to put all that aside and start over again? Sure, there are people who don’t care. But not everyone is like that. You should thoroughly question yourself about this.

It’s like buying a car. Yes. A house or a condominium is also “just” a functional item and should adapt to life. It’s best to start with a small (and affordable) property, then something suitable with a family, and then once more when the kids have moved out. Emotions are important, but you should always have a certain rationality in mind. (Says someone who lives in their fifth property, which definitely won’t be the last)

No, when buying a car you don't have nearly as high additional costs. With a property, you are each time in the range of a car that you pay on the side and which is then gone.

But by then, you have already spent a six-figure amount on additional costs. Not everyone can or wants to do that.
And for not everyone is the house just a functional object. If you yourself were involved in the construction or renovation, there may be a lot of passion in it.

That is once again a classic "in the bubble" statement from a person who has more than enough money to change properties and has always bought and sold at the right time.

That might succeed for some average earners, but to plan on that is pure madness.

And for many, the goal is to eventually pass the property on to their children. Not to deplete their own account to zero by the time they die.

So? After three new cars, you might have wasted the same amount.

Oh yes. A lot of sweat and heart and soul. And always lots of joy for the next property.
Condominium for me
Semi-detached house for my partner and me (enough for the first two kids as well)
Detached single-family house then for five
Condominium for me after separation
Two-family house, where we all fit again
Completely normal course of life

Nope.

Plan? No, just having the plan to live in the right property. As a confessed single, I probably would never have moved out of the first condominium.
With only two children, the semi-detached house would have been enough. But if you need/want three children's rooms + home office, you have to change.

Not a desirable goal. Usually not even for the kids. My goal is a good life until death. If I can then inherit something, great. If the money is gone, the kids will probably have to work themselves. Who, by the way, are often already between 40 and 50, have their own house or don’t want an old dump at all.

But well, everyone has to decide for themselves what they want. Just clinging to emotions is silly. You can also approach a property and its ownership quite rationally.

P.S. If you do not have extraordinary properties or build in the middle of nowhere, the additional costs are always well balanced out by small increases in value.
