But you only need two in the KNX with Tree you always need all four, and besides, you are not allowed to lay it together with NYM, the disadvantages don’t stop.

Well, but only because both were compatible did Loxone become acceptable in the first place. Let’s see what the future brings now. The first voices have already become loud, saying that it will no longer be used.

And usually you want to use all possibilities and not just selected ones because the manufacturer dictates it to you. For the average LOXONE user, 500 addresses may be enough. I find that at least questionable.

As an example: A Rademacher X-Line has 45 communication objects. A 4-fold dimmer 40, so you don’t get very far with that necessarily. Admittedly, you won’t use 100% of the COs, but sometimes 90%, and in addition, you can assign them double and triple as needed, meaning the 500 are already approximately full after 2 dimmers and 10 motors. (Instead of the motors, you can also use any other KNX-capable devices, e.g. push sensors). Of course, the example is flawed all over, but it’s just meant to illustrate what 500 group addresses mean.

Have you ever been to their place? It's right near Wegscheid, isn't it?

I actually planned to, but after I decided on KNX, it was no longer necessary. Yes, in Kollerschlag, near Wegscheid, only in Austria.

Well, I don't really need or want Sonos and Hue either. And even if I did, there are solutions for that too.

I can also use the tree cable for KNX, and even if KNX only needs 1 DA, there are always 2 DAs in the cable. So converting would be possible at any time.

I have no problem with KNX, but there are definitely other alternatives, whether Loxone or Free@Home.

You just have to look in advance at what is compatible, and not do it the way it usually goes: buy first, then see how to make it work together. So far, I have had no restrictions in house construction that something was missing or something was not feasible. Material costs about 16000 EUR and I have everything I need.

I have my experience mixing manufacturers. As long as it works, everything is fine; if it doesn’t, don’t expect help from the manufacturers, everyone blames the other.

But the two alternatives have a major drawback. If the manufacturer loses interest in the system or goes bankrupt, the user has a big problem. The whole thing is not a TV that I can simply replace, but I have to live with the system for decades.

Well, you see with KNX you get two pairs for the price of one.

For comparison:

Tree cable approx. €1.50/m
KNX cable approx. €0.29/m

and if you add NYM for KNX at €0.39/m, you are still below the 50% mark.

If you take CAT7, you have to add installation tubing so it doesn't get cheaper either. No matter how you look at it, KNX wiring is cheaper and it is already said that it is much too expensive. LOXONE costs even more, so where is the advantage?

Actually, one should not necessarily approach something with the idea of upgrading later. Why not do it right away?

Me neither, but I generally don’t recommend proprietary systems in that area (at most for isolated solutions), because that always means additional headaches. It has always been that way and will remain so. Who needs that?

And an alternative is only an alternative in house building as long as it is at least equivalent and similarly priced. Because often builders turn every cent three times over. KNX is considered too expensive by many from the outset. Often only based on hearsay. So why consider alternatives that under the same conditions create even bigger holes in the budget.

Or you just take KNX, where usually everything is compatible.

If it works for you, that’s great. You’re welcome to start a new thread and list what you have and we can compare what it would have cost with KNX.

In what area? KNX guarantees interoperability and communication ability. You can’t blame anyone else there.
