We were also tempted by vinyl in the basement. But when I smelled it at acquaintances' place, who, mind you, had installed a German and not exactly affordable brand, how ridiculously artificial this floor still smells after 2 years... no thanks! Can someone else report?

I can only report on 4 months of installed material and say: airing twice a day is enough so that you no longer notice it.

As soon as you keep doors and windows closed for 2 days, you can smell it.

Presumably, the problem is currently in the basement if there is no mechanical ventilation.

Hm...then we will refrain from it. I don't like to have something that smells so much like plastic under my feet, let alone in my nose or my children playing on the floor, even in their mouths. Too bad

In the basement why not a simple, non-slip tile? It is probably the best basement material besides screed with floor paint.
