As we all know, we are right in the middle of it, and until some time ago, I was also someone who thought she would only build once in her life. Meanwhile, I think that I would go for it and build again if I found the ultimate mega plot (I always have to think of ’s statement..)
What I imagine so far that I would do differently:
1. more patience or rather think things over first / sleep on it, no ad hoc decisions
2. have my floor plan designed by a "real" architect (not a draftsman of a general contractor) and especially spend more time searching for one!
3. communicate my own ideas but not make "requirements." In the end, everything was always drawn exactly how I wanted it, and hardly any objections were raised as to whether something works well or rather doesn’t.
4. I would definitely make use of the service for life-size floor plans and, as recommended by (either or ), place or draw the furniture directly in the floor plan with real dimensions. We have currently made 2 changes to the floor plan during the shell construction because our planning error didn’t show up at all on the floor plan, which of course costs again.
And on the subject of the walk-in closet: we are also getting a walk-in closet (with a window..), partly for the reasons mentioned here before and partly because, for me, a wardrobe is so bulky. To me, it takes up too much space in the bedroom. Tall and wide. I like it airy. That’s why we made the walk-in closet area so that the huge wardrobe is out of the room.
