If building again - what to do differently?

# Looked a bit more at what is currently possible, e.g. roof windows that open automatically or speakers built right into the ceiling
# Planning played through even more thoroughly
# not blindly following modern trends, e.g. do you really need floor-to-ceiling windows here or there.
# quieter exhaust air
# more soundproof doors. Costs only a small surcharge but has an effect
# possibly more walls made of sand-lime bricks
# possibly less knee wall and roof windows, but instead another large dormer (if price is a factor)
# I would probably treat myself to the fingerprint door now too :)

I don't have room thermostats anywhere, it works perfectly without them ;-) I would recommend that to everyone again and again. I would like to have 2.5m high windows everywhere. I just think that looks really great. I can also only highly recommend [Raffstores] to everyone. I would do many things the same way again, but I would prefer a flat roof instead of the pitched roof (which had to be built).

We made the same mistake. We also have a noise barrier wall in that direction. What we expected (and what doesn’t bother us) are the football trainings that take place. What does bother us more and what we underestimated are the drinking binges at the village sports field with DJ Ötzi until half past 2 at night. :D

But that was also naive. We are such basement kids that we don’t think about things like that. We should build a computer scientist’s house, simply ONLY a basement, nothing else. The property looks practically undeveloped from above. :P

Yeah, if you're a nerd, the home should also meet the needs of a nerd. Most earthlings are a bit more flexible and tolerate others beside them ;) … might even join in somewhere or something

What? You don’t live in a cleanroom? ;-) Then you really have to move. ;-)

Yuck! Humans! :P

Just kidding, it’s not that bad, but we really aren’t party animals. Such big celebrations with lots of alcohol are something that’s enough for us twice a year. In general (probably completely independent of the region) alcohol consumption is currently so ingrained, established, and accepted in society that because of our attitude towards drunkenness, we already exclude ourselves from a lot.
That doesn’t bother me much though. I just want to have my peace and meet in a refined way with the handpicked people I enjoy spending time with, and vice versa. Quality over quantity. My husband also likes to drink a whisky occasionally, but not to the point of unconsciousness. Neither of us can handle much, and we earn our bread with our brains, so neither of us has any interest in regularly knocking out a few more gray cells from the attic.

Otherwise, I totally agree. The current house is already very nerd-friendly aside from the location. But there’s still room for improvement. :D
Maybe we’ll really build the next one with a basement, then I can have a proper games room again. At the moment I only have a room on the upper floor, but I always have to keep the roller shutter down for ages to avoid damaging anything (Sunfade on OVPs).
