How much money do you have on the edge?

Paying off a used house accounts for 21% with us. I like to have enough savings so that I can cover two disasters, e.g., a new heating system. Why should I put excess money into special repayments? The return on ETFs is higher than the saved loan interest. Besides, I actually like having debt in case, for example, my parents need to go into a nursing home.

So I find it remarkable what some people can set aside here!

We have been in the house for 1.5 years, have two small children, and currently have about two months' salary as a buffer. In the future, we will build up more reserves (especially for the house) as a buffer. But right now, I wouldn’t even know where from or for what. Sure, you can secure yourself in case something happens, incapacity to work, or other "dramas." But for us, it will never come to a point where we would go years without income.

Honestly, I don’t know anyone who is that well prepared. The highest amount usually is around 10-15k. And I find that sufficient. Self-employment is of course a different matter altogether.

Well, that depends on the situation; if you have children and they quickly want a new car, you should have 30,000 ready. Or if we want a swimming pond, bam, you're 60,000 euros down. I don't want to finance everything, so my motto is always to keep a buffer.

Why do you have to buy the children a car... and then for 30k?

You don’t have to, Yosan. You also don’t just have to get yourself a swimming pond or a sauna or some other extravagant thing.
But since Bookstar also put a lot into his house (a proper kitchen or ‘decent’ doesn’t go under 40k...), just put it in the same drawer as Steffen80. Let them both be allowed to spend a lot of money! But they don’t get that they are exceptions and therefore some comments are a bit “inappropriate”.

Uh, wait a moment, I have to work hard for my money, so please no prejudices. I never said that everyone has to buy their child a car. Steffen80 is a millionaire, I'm just an employee and normally mortal.
