Well, here you have to differentiate a bit. At Lufthansa, the jobs are mostly

Don’t let yourself be provoked. No job in the world is secure, but in a (large) corporation you are definitely more secure than with any small fry or medium-sized company. They also won’t be rescued by the state in an emergency. With this mindset, in any case, nobody should build anymore unless they already have the money at home under the mattress.

You are certainly not safe anywhere, and especially not necessarily at a large corporation? I've already heard some crazy stories in my circle of acquaintances, etc. I wouldn’t necessarily claim that a corporation can offer more security than a medium-sized company. It always depends on the company/industry itself. I think if you work somewhere, you can also quite well assess whether a company is healthy or not and whether I have a future here or not.

If you are on parental leave and receiving parental allowance, of course you don't receive a family allowance either, or am I misunderstanding you? The family allowance is also only paid proportionally for part-time employment, so at 50% only half. What is true is that the aid increases in some federal states; in Rhineland-Palatinate, for example, all costs are even covered for up to 3 years if working less than 50%. Still, in the end it is not a zero-sum game for us either, but you are welcome to calculate it.

Wow, things are really heating up in this thread. However, after the post on page 3 or so, I don’t see it as critically anymore.

What was “without equity” has suddenly turned into 30k equity, or rather 54k in 2 years. Please tell the bank that too: you have amount X, with which you will pay the incidental purchase costs and amount Y you want to contribute, the rest is a buffer. Then it’s a much more complete thing and a coherent concept, which bank advisers and brokers will be much more willing to follow. You can absorb a certain level of risk with the equity buffer.

So, it’s not as bad as originally portrayed.

What obviously doesn’t work is to continue saving 2*500€ after the financing. The house with the loan and maintenance is more expensive than your rental apartment. You spend more money. That’s just how it is, but not a problem. How much cold rent and warm rent do you currently pay?

Don’t let yourself get completely driven crazy here.

Fortunately, Lufthansa was saved for now just yesterday! But I absolutely agree with you here, I also don't understand why an existing property is not considered? The costs and risks are much more foreseeable here! I don't understand why everyone always wants to build!
