We explicitly did not want granite, that would have been easy.

We liked Jura, Solnhofener, Travertine, or Crema Avorio. All limestones, so you have to be careful with the cleaning agents. Lime cleaners are not recommended.

We have now decided on Travertine in the 40/60 format. But only in the above-mentioned areas on the floor and on the shower walls, the other walls of the bathroom will only be plastered and painted.

Travertine is currently absolutely not mainstream, we were recommended porcelain stoneware tiles with natural stone look in all(!) stores including the stonemason. With "look," whether wood imitation or natural stone reproduction, I personally miss the depth and the haptics.

You probably think of those with the smooth surface.
But the quality makes the difference here. There are tiles that actually look "soft," matte surface with warm color. Texture and sandy surfaces, for example. If you take porous granite, it is much more pleasant than polished. Of course, they are all hard.
And I don’t need slippers, although I get the typical women’s problem with cold feet. Our tiles usually have a pleasant temperature.
The wood structure in a tile does not make it warm or soft in my opinion.
By the way, our parquet is definitely colder in comparison, although it is more pleasant because of the wood. There isn't much difference in that respect.

Tiles are a beautiful flooring over the surface if you want to zone with carpets. That then naturally also works for play areas.

Stone carpets: I have actually never seen them anywhere except on walls in stairwells of multi-family houses.

Natural stone is often very sensitive to acid. And acid is often contained in cleaners.

Have a look, hope you can recognize it reasonably well. Friends have it in the hallway/foyer/guest WC. It is sealed and done. So absolutely durable against liquids and very affordable.
