Raise the planned click vinyl flooring or increase the screed?

Hello Karsten

2.5 mm leveling compound and 2.5 mm vinyl make 5 mm. So there would be a 1 cm gap left under the door frames. Likewise, the gap between the floor covering and the door leaf would be larger than desired.

How do you come to the conclusion that the screed was done after the door frames? That was not the case.

Regarding the glue or click question: Yes, opinions differ. Both have advantages and disadvantages.

I would like to inquire here whether there are further disadvantages to an 8 mm underlay under the click vinyl. Spongy walking feeling? Unstable click connections due to the thicker and thus more yielding underlay?

Regards
Ricardo

Version one. Hallway tiles, room vinyl. Fits. The tiling goes up to the door frame and almost needs the height. The rest is disguised by the silicone joint. Version two. Only vinyl is used. Then it doesn't fit well. In the past, a wooden door threshold would have been installed. Nicely sealed. Would that be something? The part about adding a high build-up underneath, I would also have doubts. What do the experts say? Floor layers? Karsten

The small guest WC is already equipped with tiles and is the only room on the floor that is supposed to have tiles. The rest should be covered continuously with vinyl.

My tiler and at the same time the intended vinyl installer gave the tip of using an 8 mm underlay under the click vinyl. However, internet research talks about a solid substrate for click vinyl, otherwise the connection of the individual planks does not hold securely.

My idea now: 1 mm underlay (recommended by the vinyl manufacturer) and on top 5 mm vinyl. The remaining 9 mm must be concealed with silicone as well as possible in the area of the door frames. After all, there are only three doors (one of which is already the guest WC door) and the front door. One door, by the way, leads from the living-dining area towards the basement. So even with a tiled hallway, the problem cannot be eliminated.

Against adjusting the height using leveling compound is also the fact that we would be blocking the possibility of having tiles laid there later.

Also the question whether the kitchen should go onto the click vinyl without an extra expansion joint, directly on the screed, or on a small vinyl island (i.e., with its own expansion joint). But that is rather another topic.

Best regards Ricardo

Why don't you have the botched work fixed and new frames installed? Especially with underfloor heating, such a patchy insulation is not ideal.

Right, at least new door frames would be good. That wouldn't solve the problem with the high front door and the transition to the bathroom, but at least it wouldn't look so bad on the frames. And the doors wouldn't hang so high above the floor covering.

I will address it like that and hope that the developer doesn't favor the solution proposal to raise the screed with leveling compound...

Thanks for the prompt.

Wait, leveling compound is a clean solution after all, isn’t it, or what is the problem there?
