The hallway is indeed a long lanky space; but that’s the nature of the matter. For us, it did not necessarily have to be a straight staircase. That resulted from our space needs and their orientation. With another staircase shape, both would no longer work.

Unfortunately, that is still the architect’s furnishing. I was too lazy to adjust it again. This empty space is supposed to be filled in front of the wall (between large sliding door and bay window) with a lowboard and to the left of it (in front of the large sliding door) with a reading corner (large recamiere). Then it will no longer seem empty.

The kitchen island will move up a bit and towards the wall, so that the dining area in the bay window has over 9 sqm (3x3.5 m).

The dressing room is more like a walk-in closet. There is a sliding door or maybe no door at all. Possibly, the wall stub on the exterior wall will also be removed.

I rather think that it is due to the planning still required; it does not have to be that way by nature, especially since it apparently does not please you either. The furnishing should already be drawn in, also with appropriate dimensions, otherwise an outsider cannot recognize the purpose behind it. Dining area with approx. 9 sqm is not generous, especially since I have read about 6-8 dining places. There would be sqm left in front of the living room....-:)

Unfortunately, the furniture was only sketched in by the architect as examples. We have furnished it to scale once. What needs to fit in does fit in. A table of 2x1m (6-8 seats) also fits in.

Yes, you can. It will be a 4-sided panoramic fireplace.

We only made minor adjustments:

Removal of garage extension; rotation of garage; removal of direct access from garage to utility room; more windows again (main bathroom + dressing room; enlargement of window areas in the upper gallery); enlargement of entrance area on the ground floor; enlargement of K

Basically, we adopted the open space and the living concept. At least "Herb" was our starting point. But we then massively adapted it to the plot and personal needs.

The hallway is not exactly my personal highlight. But hey, it’s a hallway. I think it will look really nice with two paintings on the wall, an open staircase on the other side, and plenty of light thanks to the gallery, the side panel of the front door, as well as the window front in the open space.

I can well imagine that people will like walking through it. I think that should also be the criterion for a hallway passage, right?

You’re absolutely right! I’ll draw in the furniture again over the weekend and upload the floor plan once more.

Hmm. A 2.00 m wide and 1.00 m deep table in a 4.70 m wide and 3.00 m deep room should work just fine, right?

I was mistaken. The bay window has a width of 4.70 m...

The installed staircase has an impact. I would do without the small room underneath and let the staircase make an impression - without a partition wall to the hallway. Then reduce the living room. It creates more space if you reduce the length a bit. Ultimately, you have too much free space in the middle AND in front of the actual living room. The utility room can really use the meter. Really good use. I would never furnish an office like that: working becomes restless as a result. It's better to face the door. I would swap the staircase approach and then place the WC on the office side. So swap the WC with the wardrobe. Air space into the free area on the ground floor for a large Christmas tree. This also results in a better sequence of the parents' area. And all that, without flipping back :)

Phew. We don’t want to be without a pantry. Then better with a 2m x 1.30m hallway. Functionality beats aesthetics here...

I would like to implement that, but wouldn’t the traffic route living room <-> dining/kitchen become too narrow then?

Shouldn’t there be at least 1.50m of passage width there?

I would like to place my desk under the window to have natural light while working.

Basically a good idea, but that will only work with

which is not an option for us for the following reasons:

1. The open space should neutralize the perceived narrowness in the entrance area caused by the height – in relation to the living room feeling. So it creates a visual balance.
2. Sounds from the living room (TV, music, guests etc.) won’t be pushed directly towards the children’s room.

By the way: We are not really fans of those huge status symbol Christmas trees. ;)

Also, the bedroom should have a garden view, which leads to the arrangement of the parent area from dressing room <-> bathroom <-> bedroom (from top of the plan according to planning), which we consider very impractical and not very nice.

I’m impressed :)
