In connection with smarty-pantses and English and German and the ignorance of famous literati, the inclined half-knowledgeable cosmopolitan is certainly able to deduce something from "Lessing." Apparently, it is a "-ing" form of an English verb, which would then be "to less"; if used as a nominalization, one could translate it as a "lessening" or more freely as a "reduction" – and since the saying that there is always someone who is even more smarty-pantsy pinpoints a fact, it is a "Lessing." Now the person has derived everything incorrectly and yet no questions remain unanswered...
