Which brands have you chosen for the appliances? How much should it cost at all? We only know 5000 over budget now, or did I miss something? Price before or after negotiations? What I see is a f***ing expensive roller shutter cabinet (80/90 width?), the hood is also a cost factor. 80 cm hotplate instead of 60 -> If you use the steam cooker, you need fewer pots. Pantry and R. cabinet make the kitchen bigger than the regular remaining kitchen, which is about a standard size. Of course, with tall cabinets, it is an additional cost factor. How expensive might the extra table be? Would a regularly purchased individual table be a cheaper (and more individual) alternative?

Hi,

true, you are right. Ikea offers 25 years (!!!!!!) warranty on the furniture. Nobilia prefers to remain silent on the subject. They really are not comparable...

But this will quickly turn into the usual discussion whether more expensive also means better quality. For example, we drive two Audis, both of which were new cars in the 50k€ range. Quality-wise, they cannot even remotely compete with my mother’s 15k€ Honda. In my mother’s case, exactly one sensor has broken so far, and it was replaced free of charge after 5 years. As opposed to everything that was already broken on the Audis of the same age... Performance is roughly similar, by the way...

How do you define better quality? For one person it is the great feel, design, and surface, for another simply the durability and permanent (!!!) functionality of a product.

But that really is off topic...

Back to topic:
I just wanted to suggest to the OP to use the Ikea kitchen as a comparison. Price-wise, you will only get below an Ikea kitchen with significant quality compromises. Therefore, I always see them as the lower, reasonable price level. Although you can easily pay 10k€ or more with them as well. Whether the undoubtedly more elaborate surfaces and small treats of the “branded kitchens” are worth the extra cost is something everyone has to decide for themselves.

Best regards,

Andreas

You should not buy at Ikea, but rather replan the kitchen with Ikea. If you already come to €12,000 there (€2,000 I would calculate for delivery and assembly), then you don’t need to look for big saving potential anymore, because there isn’t much left (at least not without a super, super special offer, employee discount, etc.). With the appliances, they also don’t have such big margins, so you’re probably already close to €5,000 there.

My sister bought a kitchen of similar size about 5 years ago and after a lot of bargaining and comparing, she ended up in your price category. I think she took advantage of a special promotion back then, where the running meter of kitchen was paid for at a flat rate of €1,600 or €1,700. That was only slightly cheaper than the previously negotiated offer, but she was able to get one or two extras free of charge (roll-up cabinet, wider hob, larger fridge).

In the end, they all calculate similarly. And everyone wants to make money, so usually the only way is a smaller kitchen or cheaper fronts/countertops. With the appliances (unless you have the luxury versions), there is no saving of €5,000 or more possible (that’s probably about the value of your entire electronics).

Since when is a long warranty a guarantee of quality? It only means IKEA takes the furniture back or fixes defects during that period....

I have the information first-hand and as you wrote, IKEA is indeed at the lower end when it comes to workmanship/durability/feel and other criteria.

But it doesn't matter... the OP will have already formed an opinion.

I currently have an IKEA kitchen and, as can be read elsewhere here, I am still very satisfied with it; it has several years and moves behind it. However, at the time I bought the appliances in a specialized store and not at the Swede.

Because I was recently annoyed by the limited dimensions of the new base cabinets – among other things, they also discontinued "my" pull-out pantry from the range – and certainly by the consulting and assembly costs, I looked for our new kitchen at Nobilia.

I was pleasantly surprised in terms of the price/performance ratio and will no longer buy a kitchen at IKEA.

Rhenish regards

Hi,

a long warranty is probably the most reliable indicator of quality (in terms of durability, not appearance/feel) there is. You can only offer such a warranty if you are really sure it will rarely have to be claimed. Otherwise, the warranty costs will ruin you! You can think whatever you want of Ikea, they are definitely not stupid and can calculate damn well

Since you mention durability and feel in the same breath, you probably consider both equally important (which is completely legitimate). And in terms of feel, the laminated Ikea surfaces really cannot be compared with a lacquered Nobilia front.
Durability, however, is a completely different type of quality. And based on my experiences with products from German "quality cars" (derisive laughter), I see short warranty periods (or even better, no warranty at all but only statutory warranty!) as a clear statement of what to think of the quality.

If the manufacturer doesn’t trust its own products, how should I?

But as 86bibo already wrote, it’s not about switching to an Ikea kitchen now but simply using it as a benchmark to get a sense of whether there is still room for improvement in the existing offers or not.

Best regards,

Andreas
