You’re right! Is anything even planned there? Apparently, where there happens to be a wall, the TV is placed. And I must have mentioned it days ago: dining meets seating area… in my opinion that is far too cramped … That also applies to virtual boundaries

I agree with ypg. I also find it far too tight. I don’t quite understand why you had to discard the L-shape. I would reduce the size of the office (a large cupboard still fits!) and give more space to eating-living-cooking. The utility room would get the space under the stairs added. The first 5-6 steps of the staircase could be designed with built-in storage for shoes, etc.

I have sketched an idea for the layout:

Upstairs, the staircase then changes sides. Move the children’s room inward to the study and place a cupboard (because the office downstairs is smaller). Enlarge the master bedroom, make the bathroom a bit narrower and access it from the dressing room. However, you won’t be able to get symmetry in the windows on the east side. But I don’t find that bad!!

The L-shape was basically an extension that extended further into the garden. The house was about 12 sqm larger. This meant the dining area next to the kitchen would have been essentially located in the garden. The office was also smaller before the L-plan. Good point, I have reworked that and made the office smaller. We had your design almost identically upstairs in an earlier version. What bothered us was that in the bedroom the door would then be exactly in front of the cabinet of the dressing room. Furthermore, we wanted to open the bathroom towards the hallway. That’s why we then put the stairs on the other side. On the ground floor we had switched the office and the WC. From my feeling, the utility room is not well placed between office and living room. Neither for noise nor for pipes etc. In my view, the WC and kitchen should adjoin each other. That also makes more sense to me because of the east side. Many thanks for your planning and suggestions. I have incorporated the ideas from you and ypg and will shortly show you the optimized version, also with the actual placement of the furniture.

Thank you very much for your suggestions. Attached is what I have made from them. All windows should now look better from the outside. The guest room on the upper floor keeps its size. The windows in the children's rooms should now provide better lighting, and I have correctly depicted the planned furnishings. On the ground floor, the kitchen will get a floor-to-ceiling door instead of a window due to the shifted window. The living area is enlarged, the study reduced. This creates a more tranquil area, and the TV is moved away from the window front. Our dining table measures 1.80 m x 0.80 m, so slightly smaller than in the previous sketch. (I have included a table of 1.80 m x 1 m in the sketch in case a larger table is preferred in the future.) As currently positioned, you do not sit with your back to the garden on the long sides. However, it could also be rotated and, in my opinion, would be far enough from the living area. Alternatively, you could also plan without a kitchen island and move the dining table closer to the kitchen. Then, however, the table would stand more in line with the hallway/window. The "free" space in the southwest corner could still be supplemented with an armchair. I would rather designate this as a play and craft area; in addition, there remains some airy space for decoration. Here, one could also deviate from the symmetry with the windows and move the windows further away from the corner. If you want to arrange the living area differently, there would still be space for a TV or furniture there. However, this would be counterproductive for the arrangement of the windows on the upper floor. Have I overlooked anything in the changes? Many thanks for your support!

I like your entrance area, although I could also imagine something like that at in the neighboring thread. Possibly even a bit bigger/higher.

A few things I would reconsider:

The wardrobe cupboard will not be sufficient for 4 people even with a depth of 60 cm, and you are planning:

However, I would not find the view from the dining table to the front door and the stairs as well as the things standing around underneath nice. That is why I tried in my idea to avoid exactly this (line of) sight. You could also simply make a door to the living-dining room, then of course you would not see anything or not so much anymore.

I find the sofa with the TV looks very cramped there. But if you don't place much value on the living room and don’t have a big TV, it fits.

Upstairs, the children’s room on the left side of the plan is not nicely furnished, in my opinion. The bed is uncomfortably positioned with a view of the door. You would rather want that on the wall facing the office. Then the window would have to be moved outward again.

If the children are supposed to have access to the parents’ bathroom anyway, I would consider eliminating the small shower bathroom entirely. I also don’t think you need 2 toilets upstairs if there is still one directly down the stairs. That would have the advantage that you would have space for a dressing room and/or a larger bathroom.
