This is not the only house located along a railway line. The residents either love it or endure it. There are indeed worse things.

It's like with airplane noise. A neighbor once wanted to get me involved in some petition against some airport in the region because the airplane noise was so unbearable. To this day, I have never consciously heard airplane noise or even been bothered by it. But everyone reacts differently to that. But are there train enthusiasts who love the sound of trains permanently?

But certainly. We once looked at a property like that. The owners lived there and suddenly stopped talking because they knew the train was coming. He loved it, she adapted. We didn't take the property. But apart from that: there are plenty of track and locomotive enthusiasts who gladly settle there.

I actually find it interesting how a building by railway lines can trigger such a discussion. Completely without judgment. A neighbor from the other side of the street is completely annoyed by the train noise. But she has still lived here for about 10 years. We have been here for 13 and, as I said, it never bothered us. We now also stop talking when a train comes (we also know when they come) or just shout out loud sometimes. I tolerate train noise a thousand times better than street noise. But somehow we would also be happy to not have to hear any trains anymore.

Houses along railway lines always polarize. I believe many people tend to project from themselves onto others. Or at least they are aware of the fact that many people are sensitive to noise and see it as their upper-middle-class, friendly duty to save someone from a naive bad purchase by the railway tracks. I know from my own experience how different perceptions regarding noise can be. What drives some people up the wall, others don’t even notice. My uncle used to have the habit of tapping the spoon three times on the edge of the cup after stirring his coffee to let it drip off – plink, plink, plink. That sound could get my grandmother from zero to one eighty in three seconds. :)

Now a house is listed in the same place with almost 3000sqm of land for 150k. Inquired. No viewing appointments available anymore. But I am mostly very relaxed about that.
