Just because you've experienced "shit" (which, by the way, applies to surprisingly many people) doesn't mean you have to act like that here.
I also think it's naive to believe that with 3 children you never need anything other than the train when nothing else is accessible on foot. You don't want a driver's license or a car; that's too stressful or too expensive for you. But buying a house that needs renovation and that the bank currently doesn't want to finance would, from your point of view, not be a problem. What can you say to that. Naive and panic over running out of time describe it quite well, that's what I read from you as well. There is only one thing to wish: good luck.
