I would have said, just have the pipes laid and then connect the device yourself. Or is that what you mean?

Simply up to the octopus and then buy the device yourself, connect it, and commission it. Such a device is as complex as a toaster.

Okay, the cost for filters can still be added on, but what exactly is supposed to be serviced annually on a 400€ device if you already replace the filters yourself? At Zehnder, this is offered as a Basic maintenance package, but I wouldn’t spend money on that now; if something really breaks, a technician can always come...

What do you want to maintain extensively in a normal controlled residential ventilation system? Apart from filters in the device and, if available, the exhaust filters in the disc valves, that's it ;) In mine, both ball bearings were worn out after about 6 years. Bought four new ones for 20€ and installed them. It has been running again for about 1 year now.

So the maintenance for us consisted of - pulling out the heat exchanger unit - flushing both directions with water - blowing through both directions done. The exhaust air filters in the rooms, you should get a spare set at the same time as the installation, then simply replace all of them once every two months and the dirty ones - vacuum - rinse once with dish soap - let dry done

That applies to me. But if you have it done by a company, you pay quite a bit more.

The argument may be technically correct, but it is complete nonsense. Without ventilation, you have used air that needs to be removed. And especially in old buildings, many people have mold growing in the corners and behind the wardrobe. The cause is thermal bridges, humid air, and insufficient air exchange. We can argue for a long time... the only valid argument against a controlled residential ventilation system is the price.
