I would generally assume that different formats are not produced simultaneously. If the different formats also sell differently, they will accordingly be reproduced separately, and then the "batches" can also be different (potential color difference No. 2). But even different firings with possibly temperature and/or dwelling time variations in the kiln (color difference No. 1) can be enough to produce visibly not quite identical shades. In this respect, I would agree with the advisor. However, even surfaces with exactly the same tone appear slightly different when the format and/or laying pattern changes. Therefore, I would mix different formats more easily than different batches of the same format. Besides, I still maintain: feel free to change the laying direction and/or (clearly intentionally recognizable) also the tone (however, never several parameters at one joint simultaneously)!

That is theoretically correct, but with different formats and differently lit rooms, these are differences that are not noticeable. That might be a problem with completely homogeneous colors - e.g., matte white. The man wants to push the large formats on you.

I would also say, ignore it. He might want to minimize his logistics costs because then there are fewer pallets?

We don't have that problem because we don't take different formats of the same tile but entirely different tiles.

Let loose in the baths. It is allowed and basically no problem at all.

Thank you all for the feedback! That confirmed my gut feeling. The idea was and remains to find a tile that is available in our favorite format 120 x 60cm, but also in other (and cheaper) formats. Until the sample selection, I hope it will not take place at the seller from yesterday.

We took in the „highlight“ rooms, that is bathroom and guest toilet, what we liked and also the size we wanted.

In the utility room and HAR we chose similar tiles, but in the standard size, so that there were no additional costs there at all. Our tile consultant also told us that almost all builders do it that way, as long as the rooms have no connection to each other. In our case, no tiled rooms are next to each other or have a transition to each other.

For the large format tiles we also had to pay a surcharge, but that was offset, since we did not tile the whole bathroom, as calculated by the general contractor, but only partially. The saved material and the surcharge would have even resulted in a credit for us.

Only the finishing strips cost a little more, so we ended up with additional costs of 530€ in total for everything. And everything is as we imagined it.
