I am now also considering taking out [BU]. I simply entered my key data on a comparison portal (as a self-employed person) and offers are shown to me starting at €45 / month. Where is the catch? Does the contribution increase significantly with age?

Take a look at exactly what is being offered to you; keywords are forecast period, abstract reference, clear conditions in case of concrete reference, need for care...

I'll have something sent to me. How does it actually work with a disability insurance [BU] in case of a career change?

I have a comprehensive disability insurance, where the known "traps," e.g. abstract referral, etc., are regulated for about 65 euros per month with an insured amount of 1750 euros. I think the order of magnitude fits. Make sure that the base amount is not too high. The surpluses of the insurance are credited to the premium, but this part can change every year, so the premium may increase.

It is a topic that also weighs on my mind.

About 4 to 5 years ago, I secured a monthly 1,200 EUR net (dynamically increasing). It costs 27 EUR / month and you have to pay in for 5 years first before you can even make claims / be covered.

Whether all of that is really right and sensible, I no longer know. At the time, I trusted a well-known insurance broker.

The insurance would take effect as soon as I can no longer work in my profession, I would then not have to perform "lesser activities" (pressing buttons all day, opening and closing barriers or something like that).

The insurer was once the subject of [Akte], [Spiegel TV] or something like that. Making claims is apparently difficult, as has already been mentioned here. Only when the editorial team inquired there was the claim recognized and money was paid out.

Whether I can simply cancel my insurance or switch to another tariff or even provider, I have wondered a few times. But I have not yet found the time and motivation to seriously deal with it.

We will definitely still take out term life insurance.

27€ /month is very cheap. Are you still very young? I think I pay about twice as much with a similar payout amount.
