Is it so common to become unable to work? I now feel guilty for not having any.

In my opinion, [vor allem mit hohen Schulden] belongs to the most important insurances for the average employee.

well, that's the question, I asked this to the broker. There are different statements. Most say the coverage should be from 60-63. If you are like me an office worker and have made it to 60, it is rather unlikely that you become disabled for the last 3 years with more than 50%.

But it's a matter of belief... I do have a term life insurance for family and accident insurance and also something from the employer

Well, becoming disabled over 60 is one thing, but what about payments between 60 and 67 if you were already disabled before? And what if we can only retire at 70 then?

At some point, the comprehensive insurance mentality ends too - you don't need to secure everything down to the last detail.

7 or perhaps 10 years without income at a rising retirement age (which is not unlikely given the birth rate trends) seems quite a lot to me. I would rather have a few hundred euros less monthly and then pay for a longer period, e.g. until 65 years old.
Being occupationally disabled does not mean being unable to work entirely. So you should at least be able to earn a few euros on the side.

But that’s just my opinion and of course it always depends on the personal situation.

I now see disability insurance as one of the most important insurances. How quickly, for example, cancer can throw you off track for a few years even as an office employee is something I have seen in my own family.
Just as long as you have to fight to be recognized not only as occupationally disabled but also as unable to work at all.
