Pantries accessible through kitchen cabinets have an access problem. If you make the passage 60 cm wide to stay within the usual tall cabinet grid, the passage, which is at least 70-80 cm deep, is too narrow to carry a shopping basket through. If you make it 80 cm (or 2x40 cm) wide, it visually doesn’t fit into the kitchen grid.
You also always have to consider how to design the baseboard.
That definitely costs a lot more compared to a normal door.
P.S.: The skylights on the upper floor also only seem like a good idea at first glance to bring light into the hallway. At second glance, you notice that the light from the hallway also shines into the children's rooms. Therefore, I would advise against it. You would end up with a pitch-dark hallway on the upper floor.
Thanks for the hint about the children's rooms, we actually hadn't thought of that so far!
Regarding the pantry, our process is more that the shopping basket is set down on the kitchen island and the groceries are then distributed to the kitchen, refrigerator, and of course the pantry. But whether we stick with a 60 cm passage, we still have to consider. After all, we still want to fit a freezer in there :)
