Because of the windows, maybe something more like this after all:

Or with the staggered doors if possible:

Thanks for the input, we'll consider it! We have managed with the sit bath tub (110cm) in the small bathroom for the last 6 years, but have only used it to bathe the child (sometimes even with 3 kids at the same time when some were visiting). We definitely still need it for that, now with 2 children. We ourselves are not really bath lovers. Before we moved in together, my wife also had a large bathtub, but she used it exactly 0 times in 3 years.

Does anyone have any suggestions regarding the window questions? We would be very grateful :)

New year - a lot has happened! However, less so on the construction site :)

Since mid-November (4 weeks early) we are parents for the second time. Our daughter came into the world much too easily, but healthy, and after 2 weeks of nursing in the hospital, we have all been home since the beginning of December. This currently demands a lot from us, and doing things ourselves is out of the question right now. Therefore, we have now commissioned the remaining gutting, the costs are very reasonable, and work is already underway.

To fully utilize the BAFA funding amount, we also waited with the application for the heat pump until January 1st and have now placed the order.

For the windows, we decided to lower most of the sill heights to allow more light into the house. In addition, they will be wooden windows with a dominant opening sash, here is a draft from the architect - we think it's great.

As can be seen below, we are initially not planning with a lift-and-slide door, but also with opening sashes for the doors (for cost reasons).

Offers from the shell and drywall contractors as well as the electrician are still pending, the missing electrician is also blocking us because without one we can’t get construction power for the demolition work etc. :(

So, things went a bit faster with the people after all.

Last week we had two (!) electrician quotes (one about 40% more expensive than the other) and a shell construction quote. Both correspond to the architect's cost estimate within +/- 1000€, although we even added 2 more items with the shell constructor (chimney demolition and removal of the window reveal because it is not insulated...).

Then the structural engineering came and increased the shell construction quote by 10,000€ because significantly more support is needed than previously thought. Well, we had expected that we would have to spend extra for the 2 additional items, so it is now painful, but okay.

We also had a roofer there. Unfortunately, insulating the attic and knee walls is not so easy and will definitely not meet the KfW requirement of 0.14 U-value. In addition, he said that there could be problems with the tightness of the photovoltaic system on the current (old) roof. He is now making an offer for a complete re-roofing and over-rafter insulation, and then we can decide how to insulate.

Unfortunately, the correct dimensioning of the heat pump depends on this, so we still have not been able to order it.

But: the shell constructor wants to start on Monday. Finally, something is happening :)

Glad to hear that something is happening with you.

Regarding the roof: Over-rafter insulation does meet the KfW requirement. And with that, the roof should also become very tight. Why are you hesitating? Cost reasons, I assume? How big is the difference?
