From the outside in front, in front of the opening part, either also sliding yourself or as a swivel wing (then usually only in passage width).

We also have sliding elements for insect protection, as 11ant said, in the size of the sliding part of the window. A rail runs along the entire length of the window, so we can slide the insect screen back and forth. In winter, it is lifted out of the rails and stored. Since the parts are really light, it’s no big deal. We ordered it together with the windows and in exactly the same color as our windows (not anthracite or white but in a color called ETA – some kind of brown tone that matched the graying wood better than anthracite). For the regular windows, we have fixed elements that are hung in and also have a frame in our window color. As I said, we ordered them directly together with the windows and so it fits very well (and I would recommend that to everyone). You can hardly see the grids, only when it rains against them, it looks different on the windows. So, I would prefer it without insect screens... but that’s not possible for us. Although with us, my husband is the one who deals with those pests  At the moment, we still have so many mosquitoes that those things are still on. But every evening I see swarms of those nasty creatures hanging on our windows and literally begging to be let in because of the cold. And I, the tough one, take a satisfying pleasure in knowing that they will probably finally kick the bucket after the first frost nights! *harharhar*

Exactly, we do too. That’s why we enjoy warm summer rain outside on the covered terrace. In summer, our terraces and other partly covered spots in the garden are our living-dining room; I would never think of sitting inside with an open window. Mosquitoes are not a big problem for us either. In fact, we have a lift-and-slide door at the dining table, but we only rarely use it. Because next to it is the one from the living room, which leads directly to the main terrace. @Pagoni: You see, people here have very different needs and conditions (mosquitoes, terrace size, covered terraces...). You’ve now heard many pros and cons and ultimately must decide for yourself. The doors on the right and left are certainly easier to reach because there’s no table in the way and will therefore probably be your main ways outside. : For you, the huge window front that can be fully opened is really brilliant, I like it a lot, and it really should never be fixed glazed. But with Pagoni, we are talking about ONE of the three 3m windows.

With us, the lift-and-slide door at the dining table is the most used door. It really varies a lot. If it doesn't come down to the last cent, I would make every window openable. If you don't use it, it is easier to clean, and if you want to use it and it doesn't work, you get annoyed.

Luckily only 49% o_O

From my experience, I use the hinged door more; maybe it was also because the sliding door used to be very large.

That could actually be a problem for us and unfortunately mostly for me personally. Currently here it is super beautiful but terrible in terms of mosquitoes.

It has to be decided on the weekend, and some thoughts from here have already flowed in....still under construction

I might still have a few. I would never think of pinching pennies on my chocolate side. More likely on the garage, automation, fences, and similar knick-knacks...

Whether garage or carport doesn't matter, but a fixed window element positioned in the wrong place always does. I believe you can only to a limited extent say in advance how and what you will use. That only becomes apparent in reality.
