We also have sliding elements for insect protection, as 11ant said, in the size of the sliding part of the window. A rail runs along the entire length of the window, so we can slide the insect screen back and forth. In winter, it is lifted out of the rails and stored. Since the parts are really light, it’s no big deal. We ordered it together with the windows and in exactly the same color as our windows (not anthracite or white but in a color called ETA – some kind of brown tone that matched the graying wood better than anthracite). For the regular windows, we have fixed elements that are hung in and also have a frame in our window color. As I said, we ordered them directly together with the windows and so it fits very well (and I would recommend that to everyone). You can hardly see the grids, only when it rains against them, it looks different on the windows. So, I would prefer it without insect screens... but that’s not possible for us. Although with us, my husband is the one who deals with those pests  At the moment, we still have so many mosquitoes that those things are still on. But every evening I see swarms of those nasty creatures hanging on our windows and literally begging to be let in because of the cold. And I, the tough one, take a satisfying pleasure in knowing that they will probably finally kick the bucket after the first frost nights! *harharhar*
