But I don’t find it bad at all if someone with a tight budget wants to set up a space miracle for their family.
Absolutely, that’s exactly what I find great! I was more responding to what or how one always hears things when building.
And if someone wants to fulfill a dream in their space miracle, for example at least a pantry, at least a nice wellness bathtub, at least a little corner for a clothes closet instead of a dressing room, then they should allow themselves that dream and factor it in.
Are we perhaps brothers, at least in spirit?
Exactly that is my approach. I have to pinch here and there (unfortunately), which on the other hand fuels our imagination on how to make things nice even with less money. But some “pearls” absolutely have to be realized if they are important to us, so I see it the same way. I spend almost no money on cars (even before) or on some other things, but we like other beautiful things in the house, which are gladly allowed to cost money.
Exactly that is what I mean when I have sometimes written that I really miss tangible individuality here, even if I might not want that for myself. Like recently a great straw bale house, which then immediately had to justify itself and is probably gone again, or someone who builds something in the bathroom/kitchen with, for example, Tadelakt, something self-designed and not immediately and quickly, but “special” or really individual. Even if I myself wouldn’t do it that way now, I would like to see a really beautiful open-plan kitchen again, simply more diverse living and housing concepts and without any judgment or crushing counterargument. I think such people unfortunately leave here quickly again.
Also the focus on brands mentally restricts me... that’s why there is always change and a happiness in acquiring something new.
I didn’t know most of the brands and only dealt with them once something beautiful was available. The odd piece always comes and goes and we only refurnished ourselves with furniture two years ago after our return. Still, I notice that I don’t want to give up our now beautiful furniture, also because they are rather classic and regarding fashion or trends I am a low performer anyway, plus I now dislike shopping.
But in the new house, there will always be nice new/almost new things depending on the state of the wallet, but not all at once, otherwise the joy will fade too quickly.
