I can already tell that the usage behavior is different for us :-p.

We don’t have any other stationary devices besides the TV that justify a LAN connection. Laptops are mobile devices to me that don’t need a LAN connection.

We personally don’t own a laptop anymore. The kids get one if it is needed for school. But even then, WLAN is perfectly sufficient (in my opinion).

Double sockets would be an option but besides the two access points because of POE, I lack the usage scenario.

Why do basement rooms need LAN?

If you want to convert a room into a cinema, for example. Then a LAN connection can be useful. Or if your office is going to be in there. My father moved his man cave down there. He grumbles because he doesn't have enough sockets.

Cinema and office? :-p As I said, neither is necessary. I don't bring work home nor do I have a study, and the cinema is in the living room via a short-throw projector.

Need is exaggerated but having is good!

The basement often serves as a hobby, craft, or sports room. When I used to do a lot of RC model building, an internet connection was necessary to download all the updates for the controllers. Now there is a sports room and for Zwift (cycling training on a roller trainer with internet connection to race with others around the world) a good internet connection has to be there. Additionally, internet radio often runs as well. You could also do that via Wi-Fi, but if the devices are stationary, I prefer cables.

In any case, I recommend double sockets. A double socket doesn’t take up more space than a single one. Only an additional cable needs to be laid and the patch panel must be bigger. The switch also doesn’t need as many ports as the patch panel if you only have a few devices. You just have to re-patch if you want to activate a different port.

Otherwise, I mostly agree with Evolith.

Number of users = Number of opinions

Everyone has different requirements. There are people out there who don't even have a TV etc. at home.

On the other hand, there are those where every room is equipped with some network-enabled device.

And of course, there is a lot in between.

how beautifully the social criticism resonates here right away. I still play an mmo today and yet have a wife, child, and steady job.... We have a landline effectively used in every room but only in the living room and the office. The rest, even Netflix, runs over WLAN, partly with repeater
