, the sink always needs this space, no matter where it is placed. For an island, the supply line is of course best planned well in the floor. The cooktop needs the space, including for the recirculation box etc., only if it is a cooktop with an integrated downdraft ventilation system. Cooktops with exhaust hoods on the wall, ceiling, etc. do not require this space.

We have deliberately chosen a stylish exhaust hood over the 90 cm hob and made a dropped ceiling with spotlights over the 2.60 (halb) island. This creates a break in the large room, as well as again through the chimney towards the living room. But that is simply a matter of taste. I wanted a free cooktop, which w

It wasn't finished yet! The sink is directly behind me when I cook, about 1.30 meters distance between the kitchen counter and the half island. For me, a perfect kitchen-sink flow. We were already six at the island chopping, another three stood on the other side drinking their wine. And that without feeling cramped. In the end, it's all a very individual feeling of beauty and practicality... Luckily, otherwise we would all have the same kitchen.

Yes and no. The issue was that a stove in the island is a disadvantage because of storage space. And I have to strongly reject that. There is no difference between stove or sink in that regard. With a hood on the ceiling, the stove actually takes up less space in the island than the sink, you can't do anything about the pipes. In both cases, I have assumed good planning, no one wants to climb over pipes....

They don't. The sink always needs space below, whether on the island or not. Cooking on the island, however, requires a downdraft system if you cannot accept an island hood in the room, which no one would consider with a cooktop against the wall.
Additionally, downdraft systems are extremely expensive.
