Skylight or artificial lighting as an alternative?

There is also heat protection glazing from Velux – but I don’t know how effective it is. You can also retrofit roller shutters yourself if needed, which is much cheaper than through the general contractor.

For every skylight! Light is important – especially in the hallway/staircase corner. Constant artificial light, even with motion detectors, is annoying. Cleaning is out of the question, so what? Due to the roof pitch, not even water (and dirt) can remain. I consider the idea that this could become a leak to be a myth that developed in the 1950s and unfortunately still persists. We have an east-facing skylight in the dressing room and other windows in the west in the hallway: I don’t see why we should add thermal insulation there. Yes, I also consider the other arguments exaggerated – in that case, you shouldn’t build a house at all.

I really appreciate it in our conservatory – the roof windows have this special coating, but the vertical ones do not (they have an external roller shutter).

It’s impressive how much difference you notice on a sunny day:

- Roof windows and hand in the sunlight – no problem, it doesn’t even really get warm
- With the vertical windows, however, it soon becomes quite uncomfortable (I’m not a person who lies in the sun for hours)

That really makes a difference...

Thank you very much for the many helpful comments. It is clearly "pro skylight." I would now also plan with windows, but keep in mind that this could be a cut position if something goes seriously wrong with the budget or shell construction...

So that you also get a "contra" opinion.

We don't have a skylight in that area and honestly, I have never really considered that one might be missing there. It's a passage room, I don't spend time there. Much more important to me is the light in rooms where people actually stay.
Many of the pro opinions assumed that it would be facing east. With a southwest orientation and direct sunlight, I would do without it. During the day, especially in summer, you will often have to close it, and at night the skylight is too small to really see anything.
And for me, the photovoltaic aspect would be important - I have installed such systems myself and there is nothing more annoying than having to build around a skylight in a perfect surface. In the worst case, you lose 6 panels = 2.1kwp, at least that's how it is for me. We have a skylight in the bathroom and I have practically never observed the moon or stars at night (not that I would want to miss the light during the day in the bathroom - but that is also living space).

In case of doubt, I would also plan without a roof window. Prefer to give priority to photovoltaics. There are now such beautiful LED panels, also with motifs, that can be used as a window replacement. Just google "LED panel statt Dachfenster" and then look at images.
