I had it as a child and regularly woke up.

If you don’t know it, I would avoid it. It can backfire. These things cost a lot, heat up the place, and are also prone to problems.
Later I had an apartment with roller shutters, that was good.
Significantly quieter and cooler. Bad with snow and ice, then nothing works anymore. I also had it as the only window in the bathroom, where during two harsh winters no ventilation was possible. Completely iced over.

I would always install a roof window if my budget allows. You can still negotiate the price.

Here is a net price from our offer as a reference (including installation):

Then 5% would be deducted.

Roof windows can be nice, especially facing north. But for me, they weren't worth the money and I also experienced that windows in the roof are more vulnerable. Insulation is usually somewhat worse as well. In any case, we don't have any. However, many advised us to install some - roof windows seem to be very popular.

Hello, thank you very much for the answers.

The room is 3.90m x 3.40m, so almost square. We have now decided against the window. We have been there twice at dusk and even then the room was still bright enough.

I have known roof windows for 10 years, it personally didn’t bother me, okay, with hail it might have gotten louder, but it doesn’t hail that often anyway.

And if necessary, if in 5 years or so you realize, hey, we would actually like to have a window here, you can always have one installed, it’s not impossible.

We now have an additional skylight in every room. A roller shutter is mandatory, noise during rain is only an issue with very heavy rain. "Normal" rain is not noticeable. It probably also depends on the glazing.

There are nice combinations of Velux with roller shutters and, for example, insect protection, etc., depending on what you need.
