Then I will look for the story of the robber Hotzenplotz to follow up on the hint from .... We just thought the catalog draft would suit us - but then switched quite quickly to a free design.

: I like the hint about the door. It was originally a 2-leaf glass door in Kern's initial design, but we don't need a passage of 1.50m, plus the current solution is much cheaper (narrower, only one door, without frame). We also have nothing against a sliding door - we have one now too, it's often open anyway ;-) (Then it takes up less space in the room.) The kitchen has no wall cabinets, that's true, in the house design it doesn't match our current kitchen planning. The kitchen wall will be quite closed overall and get a framed niche. I will discuss the idea of a lift-slide door behind the island with the boss....

: 2m wide windows would be nice, but also more expensive again. Apart from the costs, the argument against it was: Nobody should watch me shower in the bathroom anyway (it will be frosted glass), the children's rooms got skylights specially, and one window is enough for us in the bedroom too.

No, it's just called R.Hotzenplotz (and there are several threads here about a 220 sqm Hornbach house) Free planning is also okay, only a repeatedly modified catalog model sounds like a potential hazard to me. In that case, "real" free planning (just a blank sheet and your own requirements) would be better.

But every day the added value of having daylight in the rooms.
They are not that expensive after all.

It already says "free planning" above/below since July - only the very first draft was "based on Modellvergessen". We did a lot of the drawing ourselves, went through all kinds of catalogs.... we just thought it would be cheaper if we pressed it into a standard mold, but quickly realized that it doesn't fit. (That's why we also moved away from Viebrockhaus - great houses, but they didn't invent flexibility.)

I don't rule out the window thing. Maybe with 2m windows you can already save the 2 skylights in the kids' rooms?!? Because they are not exactly cheap either - with electric shutters....

I also find the design very successful. I was wondering if small storage rooms might be missing on the upper and ground floors, as otherwise one constantly has to go down to the basement or up to the attic. Your living room with kitchen is 50sqm, do you have a comparison regarding the size?

I have also thought about the storage rooms in the attic, but in the end, it has to be in the basement (and under the stairs to the basement) and with the pantry. Except for a place for the robotic vacuum cleaner, it will have to remain open....

From many model houses, we have "picked up" a sense of space, the 50 m² (+/-5 m²) we found good and they also fit well.
