Roller shutters in new construction

We do not have wind guards - we can still make them, but I consider them purely optional for rail systems depending on the wind direction.

That naturally also depends on the location. With us, it "blows" quite strongly due to the exposed position, and with 2x3 meters on the upper floor, I wouldn't have wanted it without a guard. I recently adjusted the sensitivity at night during a storm to my liking.

It seems to me quite expensive what window manufacturers want for electric roller shutters. When you see that some tubular motors can be obtained for 50€-100€. You could then retrofit them yourself during the construction phase and accordingly remove the strap or crank. Of course, then the switches etc. come into play.

And new wave, storage and small stuff... it's not as cheap afterwards as one imagines

It depends on the approach. My window installer prepared everything, I just had to "slide in" and hang the motor, which was both quite easy. So this part cost me nothing except materials. Then my electrician connected the control unit I bought for a few euros (which was chosen so that it also fit into the framework planned for the socket already intended for the window). With that, I easily saved a three-digit amount per window for 2 hours of work plus a bit of time for selection and ordering.

Do you close your roller shutters every night? For us, electric roller shutters or a central control system would have been completely useless. We both dislike feeling trapped and also don't want to wake up in complete darkness. Therefore, our roller shutters are only used during the day on hot summer days and partly in the children's room for darkening.
