And then in the following years you had to work your ass off on the construction site every weekend with all the helpers until the last one in the circle of friends or family finally had a house... I honestly prefer to spend that time with my wife and child and am not eternally indebted to 50 people...My parents also financed 9% and were not necessarily wealthy. But that was a different time. In the village, everyone knew people who could help, much was done on their own. The construction itself, I think, was not yet technically demanding. And there was no BG Bau that wrote to everyone asking who helped on the site. :D On Saturdays, a whole group of private helpers from friends and family would be cooked for, but you built almost at material costs. My mom recently said that they couldn’t have built the way we do now (general contractor, large loan). The incomes didn’t allow it. I think it’s just very hard to compare regardless of the interest rate.
