How do Mikrotik devices operate under ipv6? They don't have Band Steering if I saw that correctly, right?

In the meantime, they run very well with IPv6, gladly also with Dual Stack. Band Steering can be implemented through appropriate configuration if it is needed. For me, all non-mobile clients run on 2.4 GHz, so that 5 GHz is exclusively available for notebooks and smartphones/tablets. With enough APs in the right places, I find that a good distribution.

The Wife Acceptance Factor was actually only met by the Unifi. If you want to hang them high on the wall or ceiling, the Fritz repeaters/APs are just too ugly.

I had a pretty funny experience with this. I actually wanted a professional router or firewall. But then I realized that proper multicast support for MagentaTV and some other things (e.g. DECT) that I need only really works well with the Fritz Box. Now there’s a FritzBox 7530 (with Wi-Fi disabled) connected directly to the Telekom FTTH OTP, followed by a Netgear Smart Managed PoE Switch and on each floor a Unifi Nano HD Access Point. And eventually, a firewall or something similar will be placed between the FritzBox and the switch, so that I can set up more than two VLANs.

In the professional sector, individual devices are typically used, such as a modem/converter, a router, a firewall, a DECT station, etc. A Fritz!Box can do all of this in one device, which is sufficient for 99.9% of private households and, above all, reduces the complexity to a manageable level for laypersons. Those who need more must upgrade accordingly but should also have a better understanding of the technology. VLANs are likely unnecessary for most home networks.
