So. Now let's get to the point. Maybe I'm just too stupid.
Just read that. That's obviously nonsense. A client will normally prefer the stronger access point with one and the same SSID. It's important that both/all APs or SSIDs use the same security settings.
Nope... I can say that from my own experience with both good notebooks and good smartphones. The devices are dumb. As long as the old access point still sends some kind of halfway decent signal, it won't switch to the better one. (Access point and router same SSID) That's exactly what mesh is supposed to improve. And I can confirm that in my current apartment. It works with mesh about 95%.
Ben-man's opinion goes in that direction too.
To avoid hopping between networks. If that's not the case for you, for example because your basement ceiling attenuates the basement Wi-Fi strongly enough, then it's not better to turn off the Wi-Fi of the box but it doesn't matter.
So again my question: can APs connected to the router via CAT7 cable have intelligent control like mesh Wi-Fi networks?
If not, I would be pretty disappointed. It annoyed me so much back then to constantly help manually.
