If you plan to use the room several times a day or always be handling something there, I would find daylight more pleasant than having to turn on artificial light every time.

I would use lighting with a motion detector and no door at all.

Well, I assumed that with a "hidden passage" between the fridge and the oven you go "through the kitchen" into the pantry and not through a cabinet wall that stands somewhere in the kitchen but is not the "kitchen."

I would zone the kitchen like this:

    [*]Pantry door to the right
[*]Orange equals storage space in the pantry
[*]Green = tall cabinet wall in the kitchen, possibly 90 cm base cabinet niche in between for coffee machine or kitchen appliance
[*]Turquoise only base cabinets, cooktop separate from the extractor hood, with free placement options for both at the bottom of the plan, sink in the corner at the transition to the half island, thus 2 full preparation areas next to the sink (washing vegetables, cleaning knives, cutting board, etc.) ... one between cooktop and sink and one at the half island ... also great for working with multiple people or buffet setup, etc.

Thank you for this great input and your effort!
Would the pantry then have a "normal door"?
We would like to have the cooktop with a downdraft extractor in the island. What do you think about that?

I am not a fan of downdraft extractors and also not a fan of cooking on the peninsula. Because I simply think you have much more going on in the kitchen around the sink, refrigerator, etc. There are not only hot meals, but also 1 to 3 cold meals a day.

But, that is subjective and everyone has to decide for themselves. For further suggestions, I recommend a specialist forum, search via Google ;)
