If you use a device without outdoor installation, yes - I wouldn't do that. Whether you need a hole in the base plate depends on how and where the outdoor unit is supposed to be placed.

Okay, so outdoor installation means that you have the main unit inside the utility room and additionally a device with a fan outdoors. In your opinion, that would be the best of the options?

We had planned to place the fan directly on the eastern exterior wall near the main system (heating and fan are thus only separated by the wall). Then aren't the connecting pipes routed under the base plate to the inside?

I interpreted it differently. As a layperson, I actually read that there are generally no efficiency advantages between monoblock and split units in the outdoor area (quite the opposite, for example, compared to an air conditioner). Only the location of the outdoor unit is essentially a decisive factor here, because a monoblock unit should be installed very close to the utility room due to the necessary insulation. I will now conclude that with a monoblock system, one reduces installation costs and has somewhat more space available in the utility room.

It would also be interesting to know if there are differences in follow-up costs - maintenance and repair

No, well I only have one outdoor unit - I would do it the same way again. The unit is also directly on the wall of the utility room, so I don't need a hole in the floor slab. The two water pipes and the power cable go directly through the wall. A split unit surely also has its justification - but "I" don't know which.

Okay, that would suit us if we want to place both units on the same wall (one inside, one outside). Then only the basic question remains whether one should give the air-to-water heat pump a chance or trust the good old gas.
