We have the "SSH Speyer 3 naturbelassen" from Hornbach. It has a 3 m x 3 m base area and side walls made of 38 mm round profile with tongue and groove. Roof in 19 mm. Additionally, a wooden floor, also 19 mm.
My thoughts on it:
- I (! ) don't think I would have come out significantly cheaper with wood from the specialist timber trade and DIY. The planning effort alone... When am I supposed to do that?
- The assembly instructions for the house are rather rubbish. I suspect that's the case for all of them!
- Now I know how, but best is to help a friend with the first house. The second one will then be your own .
- The wood itself was of good quality, not warped etc. The wrong/missing parts were promptly delivered (of course this throws the schedule back by weeks, you only occasionally have a free weekend).
- About the foundation... I couldn't sleep peacefully if the house just stood there. I fixed it firmly to the foundation. Maybe paranoid, but we've experienced more (severe) storms here than the years we have lived in the house.
- Whether the square floor plan is really good remains to be seen. I have a feeling a rectangular one would be easier to use.
- With the external dimensions, 38-mm wood is already more stable.
- You also have to sort out the roofing and drainage yourself.
- A splash guard makes sense, otherwise dirt gets hit against the bottom.
- We initially painted the individual parts twice with solvent-based wood protection primer. Under the pavilion, because of rain. Then assembled it (that was last autumn). As soon as there are three free dry days, insulating primer and final coating will follow [@Nordlys: reddish brown and light ivory. The ladies of the house did not want Scandinavian red]).
That’s it for the beginning ...
