No, it does matter. Because it's about the dirt-trapping mat you have to walk over (or not) when you want to go up or down. That's where most of the dirt usually collects and it's also often damp there.

The wardrobe is new. And it doesn’t catch the eye at all. Because when you come through the front door or just open the door, you don’t see it. I have added 2 pictures of our hallway. One shows the view when entering the front door, and one shows the wardrobe’s position more clearly. The doors next to and opposite the wardrobe (only seasonal jackets and only for the residents of the house) are for utilities and the office. Please don’t pay attention to the runner and vacuum cleaner for now. And we have now also invested in a dirt-trapping mat inside the front door.

We also did not want a stair at the front door because we always walk around at home only in socks or barefoot. Especially at the entrance area, in addition to the moisture, there is also always a small stone here and there, which then leaves nice marks on the wooden stairs.

No, it does matter, I can understand Manu there. However, I also think that sometimes it is the "lesser" evil. But I think it's good that she addresses it, after all, you don't think of something like that at first and can then consider whether it would really bother you yourself.

Example in winter with the staircase starting at the front door:
1. You enter the front door with wet, dirty shoes. They are placed near the front door, and beforehand, you inevitably walk a few times in the entrance area between the front door and the staircase until you have taken them off (or taken off the children's shoes).
2. In the evening, you want to get from the ground floor to the upper floor with slippers or socks, but first have to walk through the area where you were earlier with the wet, dirty shoes. Thus, you bring the dirt upstairs.

If the hallway is large enough or the shoes are placed so conveniently that there is no dirt between the staircase and the front door, then it's certainly not a problem.

When I see how much sand and little stones my kids bring in with their shoes, I am glad that they are taken off behind the front door, away from the stairs.

Very nice hallway, I like it very much. I also find the staircase with the LEDs nicely designed.
With the tiles, it’s easy to simply clean them.

Do you do it? Twice a day? At noon and then again in the evening?
Yes, there are those kinds: our plumber also told me that they have black tiles and his wife, because of the dogs (and she herself is an equestrian), mops twice a day.
When asked: no, she doesn’t work. Honestly, I would find it too stupid to take a mop ( we call them mops ) in hand every day. Even if I had the time: I don’t like to enslave myself

Dirt has no place under my feet. Seen that way, it’s not worth sticking under my adult feet.
But it’s not just about crumbs/dirt: I don’t want to constantly pass the front door in my birthday suit in the evening.

But as I already said: if you plan a 109 sqm little house, you don’t have any other choice. And it’s definitely the lesser evil than a messed-up upper floor.
