I found the project by very exciting back then. Also with a slope, although not nearly as pronounced a slope as with you ... I just did a bit of digging.

Matte summarized his first attempts with comments and then posted his final result in the follow-up post . Maybe you can gain some insights for yourselves there.

With the steep slope, it should be examined whether a terraced house (i.e., each floor staggered) would not be more economical. The earthworks, excavation, and the necessary retaining walls will cost a fortune with this plan.

That would also be a good solution. There is space available.

I think we would prefer not to spend more than 1 million on the house. Is that specific enough?

Sorry for the stupid question, just the house or house including additional costs and modeled land and garage? In your case, the difference can easily be well over 200k. Do you have a soil survey or a rough idea from the neighbors about what kind of soil is there, because if there is even just rotten rock, all cost planning regarding excavation will be severely affected. Is a pool an issue?

Are there only hedges/bushes or tall trees in the south that swallow all the light? The proportions don’t fit yet in the current draft, but many wishes can be read out such as pantry, dressing room, separation of utility room/technical room. I would also rethink it once again.
