It's no different with music. To me, the younger composers don't come close to the beauty of Mozart, Beethoven, Wagner, ... Probably I'm just old.
Strange that you see it that way. The last sentence.
Everyone is different, has different perspectives, which are valid.
And the older you get, the further you can see, because you know and have experienced more things (let's hope so). One travels a lot, another is good with numbers or languages, another knows all the spices because they cook a lot and well, and another knows more about music rather than evaluating design or craftsmanship.
It doesn't matter what it is. I would never think of seriously criticizing my qualities just because I am older in age than others and have followed my own path as it is.
Exactly that being older brings experience. My profession relies on empirical knowledge; a youngster or rookie who has just finished training can't perform that. But other things. That brings us to your artist comparison: different music, different experiences. Different time. Different taste of the time.
Just because things are built differently nowadays than in the past doesn't mean it is worse. It's different. Home-cooked meals are tasty, one-star cuisine can be nice too. And caviar just needs some bread and vodka.
Everything has become very diverse – and that is a good thing. But you don't recognize that in your early twenties, only much later.
