I basically like the design. Such projects should not be judged by the standards for new buildings. Here and there, it is a bit tighter, for example with the staircase – but that also contributes to the character of the house in the end. By the way, the staircase would not be considered narrow in England, and satisfied people live there as well. I find the play area on the first floor especially nice and a potential booster for the living value. Two aspects I would reconsider: 1. Access to the kitchen area 2. Amount of installations in the master bathroom in such a small space But even so, it looks like it was made for a happy family that is cheerful, communicative, and unpretentious, and consciously chooses the seemingly "not perfect" instead of being composed of neat freaks. Tip: If the plot allows – an outdoor bathroom is also a good idea.

Thank you very much for your feedback, that reassures me. You do get a bit unsettled when reading the critical comments, although we are aware of the peculiarity of the building and precisely chose it for this reason. An outdoor bathroom might be conceivable; in any case, another bathroom will be added to the guest area of the second bathroom. And as already mentioned, our current bathroom (in a very conventionally designed single-family house) has very comparable dimensions, even though the architecture of the building is quite different. The kitchen and living area will definitely be critically examined again, although we currently lack ideas (sometimes you can’t see the forest for the trees), but we like the upper floor and will at most change the location of the staircase and thus the dressing room.

This is a great project! I really like the floor plan and would change very little. The dining and kitchen area could actually be a bit larger for 5 people. You mentioned that the study room can be removed. I wouldn't move the stairs too far to the right, as otherwise the parents' area upstairs would suffer. Your concerns about sound transmission could be addressed by relocating the (sliding) door between the stairs and the living area. A modern swing door could also look great here.

And what is the room/storey height of the ground floor now?

And, preferably do not write the answers inside the quotes, but rather quote the relevant text and then write your answer outside the quotation marks. That way they are easier to recognize.

I implemented my suggestions in two different drawings. The advantage for the parents in each case is that the bedroom is no longer an uncomfortable walk-through room. However, in variant 1, there is no space left for a large bathroom, so the toilet is separate here. This can be a disadvantage or an advantage with 3 kids. More important to me than the parents' section was the large living-dining-kitchen room. The staircase is therefore shifted in both variants. The fireplace is also shifted, so you would have a nice view of it from both the dining table AND the sofa. Between the kitchen and the sofas, you could also place a room divider or a half-height wall.

Maybe I was able to give you a few suggestions for adjustments with this

Wow, thank you very much. The ground floor is used so much more efficiently and feels noticeably airier. The solution with the bathroom behind our bedroom doesn’t seem so bad to me since the children have their own bathroom and, in case of emergency, only my husband and I would use that one. I actually found the planning quite good except for the staircase situation. I think we will reluctantly say goodbye to the dressing room in favor of the living space. But again, thank you for the great suggestions!
