That's all true what you say. At the moment we have an open (small) kitchen. But what has always bothered me so far was the cooking smell in the other rooms. But that can certainly be better controlled with proper ventilation technology than today with the old technology.

Cooking smells good in our home and attracts the diners to the table. After cooking (with recirculation hood) and eating, a cross-breeze is always created; in summer, the doors are open.

That's how it is, and a small kitchen is something completely different. Often, typical scenarios like frying fish or making fries are also included in the decision, even though that hardly ever happens. For example, I will definitely grill many things right on the terrace, much more gladly than in the kitchen with fat and a pan. In the previous house, we also had a closed kitchen with 2 sliding doors.....completely pointless investment. Eventually, both were removed along with the wall to the dining room; resulting in a free view of the greenery and more daylight! Moreover, as mentioned, always in contact with the people. It is usually no longer the case that the humble woman in an apron slaves away in the kitchen while the master of the house entertains the guests with his heroic deeds in the formal dining room until the soup bowl arrives. Although, I could also imagine a really spacious eat-in kitchen with a sofa; unfortunately, that's a bit out of fashion nowadays....for me too; still, I think that's great, whereas a normal large cook kitchen in a separate room less so.

I'm more annoyed by the kitchen noise - do I want that next to the TV? Do I want to hear Paw Patrol while cooking? Do I want to see dirty dishes? I don't understand this open space trend. Not to mention the acoustics in these huge living halls. I also like that you can have "private conversations in the kitchen," that not everything happens in one room. When I see everything that ends up on kitchen islands, I get stress pimples. :D

I understand you exactly!
Loud staff bothers me just as much.... this bunch! :D

That makes sense to me, although of course it's not easy to still create spaciousness with limited space.

That's why in the next house I would also like a really spacious eat-in kitchen with a sofa, of course; then yes.

....that too is just a question of the right personnel.
My trend, however, for example, is that TV has no place in the living area; it “bothers” me when the living room design and often more is oriented solely around the TV. Then you either have too much light to watch TV or too little to have a nice view outside. Therefore - a TV room or a separate corner where someone can have complete peace.
What do you think about that?
