Especially in winter (slushy snow) I can partly understand the argument about dirt.. But even with our floor plan I wouldn't know how to do it differently, so the mat has to be enough.

So the 1,000 only refers to the door itself, not the installation, we'll do that ourselves (or a friend of ours). Do you think that's too little? I do have some concerns about security, but on the other hand, the garage will get an electric gate, which shouldn't be so easy to break into. Also, sometimes the front doors are even left open during the day.. at first that was quite strange for me. Everything is still quite 'village-like' around here when it comes to that..

The worst thing is that so many people in our circle of acquaintances swear by a door like that.. I don't stand a chance XD

And when there is rarely a car in the garage, such a door is great for working in there and stuff. I wanted one too.

Snow slush and grit don’t always come off.
Garden shoes, running shoes, stable shoes sometimes have to dry first before they can be cleaned.
Work shoes, whether pumps or safety shoes, often have traces of oil or metal residues in the rubber (some craftsmen will surely know this).
Strollers and such.

Maybe then the door to the utility room is still a good idea

Well, at least you can actually take off dirty or wet shoes in the entrance area and then 'park' them temporarily in the utility room

And if we actually realize the basement extension, we can comfortably take off the dirty garden shoes in the basement after gardening.
