Yes, I did. But it’s quite an effort and you don’t get it perfect, especially since there are many cutouts here. Friends recently just primed, poured leveling compound and sealed it. Also in a laundry room. That is definitely easy and cheap. However, I have no long-term experience with it.

Probably looks better than untreated screed floor in any case ;)

Ah right, thanks, I have to google that again.

I just typed that into the image search. I think that’s what we have! Honestly, I don’t know what screed looks like "live," since we didn’t build it ourselves. It’s simply gray and very smooth. I searched for screed pictures based on my assumption, but apparently photos with leveling compound on top are also shown. But when I enter leveling compound in the image search, it all looks like what we have in the utility room.

But it’s not nice, and the height difference to the tiled floor in the kitchen is also annoying when you step on it with bare feet.

Ultimately, it's just a very thin screed. If the room is dry, you can basically put anything in there. You're not really limited. We had bare screed in two rooms, rough and uneven, you couldn't even sweep it properly, let alone mop it. Since we have an old, sick, and therefore unclean cat, only tiles were an option for us. But that was quite a bit of work. Edge insulation strips, priming, leveling compound, priming again, laying tiles, grouting, and then cleaning several times at the end. I skipped the skirting board because I was fed up. And our basement isn't really dry either.

I would tend to lay the tiles yourself if you have the time. Do you have any photos of how many pipes / cutouts there are? It is a secondary room and if it's not perfect, maybe it's not so bad? I can well imagine it as a DIY project. Friends of ours laid tiles themselves in the garage, also for the first time - it didn't actually look that bad. What tools would you need? I assume a trowel and a few buckets, and maybe some kind of laser device to see if it's level? I don't know what they're called. Our tiler had one, but for wall tiles. I don't even know if you need that for the floor? And one of those tile cutters, but I think they're not expensive. As far as I remember, they are just scored and then snapped off. There are surely good instructions online.

I would take a weekend and tile something myself there. A heating room doesn’t have to look nice and is perfect as a practice project ;) Generally, rather a smaller format like 10x10cm, so you have only a few cut tiles around pipes. And I would consider, if in doubt, working roughly and not neatly cutting out the leftover pieces, but simply spackling them over.
