We have white oak on the floor and almost black countertops with matte glass fronts in white. So far, all guests have been extremely impressed with the look.

Do I understand correctly that the countertop is blackened oak? I can imagine that visually very well, but I once had parquet in the kitchen and don’t want that again. (But in my kitchen whole animals come in for butchering)

Back to the topic: We have a lot of natural stone inside and outside. I have never known it any other way since my childhood. Marble and various granites. I always take the position that granite as a flooring is NOT susceptible and practically retains its good properties and appearance "forever." However, this definitely requires treatment with silicone-based impregnations. All reasonable products have in common that they are not suitable for contact with food.

Yes, correct - solid oak. So far completely resilient and we only oil about every three weeks. But of course, we do not process food directly on the [platte], but on boards.

Matte is not equal to matte. Matte glass is completely different from matte lacquer, both different from matte laminate. I can well imagine your combo btw.

Taste is a personal thing. Everyone please do whatever makes them feel comfortable. I just feel like 2/3 of the new kitchens are in black and white.
So the cool kids have something different... Although that really fulfills my demand for contrasts to the maximum.

Hmm, but isn’t THAT exactly the purpose of a “work”top?

If anything, when it comes to stone countertops, you want to be able to work directly on them, right? Or place a hot pot or roast from the oven on them without anything getting damaged..

Especially here, I might avoid quartzite. At a colleague’s place, it discolored heavily after his wife placed her pan from the oven on it.
