What is actually more "cozy" in a 1.5-story house? From the outside, it might still not leave such a sober impression, but on the inside? We also find our city villa extremely cozy with the interior design and color scheme we have chosen. Thanks to the better use of space, we were also able to include three children's rooms, two bathrooms, a large play hallway, and a master bedroom with a walk-in closet. Our three little darlings are thankful that we currently all live on one level.

We also chose a gable roof. On the one hand because we had to and on the other because we like it better visually.
We also like sloping roofs and roof windows - although we currently only have one and a dormer on the 2nd floor - so we are building 2 1/2 stories.
There are now also great roof windows that you can easily look out of because they are quite '[bodentief]'. But you can also work around that with a high knee wall.
It will probably depend on the house itself. If it is rather square, a hip roof is probably nicer. However, for a rectangular cube, it should probably be a gable roof. Just make it dependent on your possible room layout and the exterior dimensions.

Maybe cozy is simply the wrong word...

"Secret" might be more fitting. It's hard to describe...

In the end, everyone has to know what they want themselves, and thank God not everyone has the same taste. Otherwise, it would be deadly boring!

I feel the same way. I don’t know why, but a sloping roof somehow gives me a feeling of security.

Besides that, I just don’t like these new-build pseudo-city villas. Square isn’t always practical and good.

But tastes differ, and that’s a good thing.

We chose a city villa-like building shape. However, with a gable roof - see the avatar image. This has the advantage that we have two full floors and at the same time an attic (which can possibly be converted later). OK - we have a slope on the back wall - due to the second full floor, we got a nice terrace exit. In addition, one side of the house is almost perfectly oriented to the south. Thus, one side of the roof is perfectly suited for a photovoltaic system - which we also used. I think everyone has to decide for themselves. On the one hand, it's about liking it - on the other hand, about the utility. For example, we would never have chosen a flat roof - we both don’t like it. Regarding sloping roofs, I always think of the headache I get when I’m a bit careless at my parents’.

I think here you can really only provide food for thought – the decision has to be yours.

After two years in an apartment with many sloping ceilings and six years in a classic one-and-a-half-story house (with a converted attic), it was clear to me that there should definitely be no more sloping ceilings in the living space. However, I still find a pitched roof much more beautiful than the flat roof option (the "established" architects may now want to stone me), and so it ended up being a two-story house with a hipped roof. As Nordanney already writes, the interior will certainly be very cozy due to the layout and equipment, and from the outside such a house impresses me with an enormous elegance. It also has something protective with its towering walls.

As I said: In the end, you still have to decide yourself. Good luck and a sure hand!

PS: I believe that, in terms of price, there is not much difference overall – with equivalent execution and equipment.
