Hello everyone,
thank you very much for your contributions! Of course, I know that I have to decide for myself, but I find it very interesting to read your thoughts on this. New impulses always help. I will now try to upload a picture showing the property with the two neighboring buildings.

Good evening,

I unfortunately had to delete the excerpt from Google Maps because it constitutes a copyright infringement.

Hello,

In my experience, it mostly makes sense if you follow your gut – regardless of any other opinion – and do so consistently. The posts from the users under your post all reflect their preferences; meaning, within their respective budgets, they have built (or are still building) exactly as they dreamed. That is, by the way, one of the nice aspects of my profession: no construction project is like another.

Oh, normally quite a bit of masonry is added in the difference between one- or two-story houses; a hip or pyramid roof on a two-story is a bit more expensive than a gable roof. But since you want to combine "in any case many or large dormers" (I assume you mean cross gables) with a gable roof, "it could" easily balance out 1:1.

Best regards from the Rhineland

Construction expert, I meant something like this:

Unfortunately, the two neighboring buildings are quite tall. That's why I would have some concerns with a 1.5-story gabled roof house being visually "squeezed" by the neighboring houses, if you know what I mean. The plot is about 20x30m. My idea would be to build significantly wider than deep, for example 13x8m plus on the right and left each an oversized garage with at least 3.5m, so that we have more space for the garden.

I wouldn't like large windows on the gable sides because of the neighboring houses. To the rear, we have an unobstructed view, so I definitely want to have nice windows there (even though the orientation is not optimal, unfortunately north-west).

Musketeer - right, I didn’t even think about the fact that with slanted walls and gable windows you might have three walls where you can only place a few things.

Doc Schnaggels - I haven’t been to a model home exhibition yet, we are really still at the very beginning of the planning. We have only bought the plot of land so far.

Nordannay - that sounds very spacious at your place! How many square meters do you have? Are there maybe any photos and/or a floor plan to see?? A play corridor also sounds good, although we only have "just" two children and that will stay that way.

Hello,

I have the feeling that you are not yet quite clear that two-story buildings can also be built with a gable roof.

Friends of ours have a knee wall of 2.10 m, thus plenty of space for normal windows and placement options, and still a gable roof. The attic is not developed but has an exposed roof truss, which feels very cozy due to the wooden cladding. No "ouch" feeling when standing under the slope.
