Yes, we also have a pitched roof, but no sloping ceilings in the upper floor. Instead, we have an attic, but a very small one. Our roof pitch is only 20°.

We didn't want sloping ceilings either, because we have already lived with sloping ceilings for years and it bothers us, and we constantly have to stoop somewhere or hit our heads.

We currently have two skylights in the bedroom. When it rains, we cannot ventilate the bedroom... Honestly, that's not exactly ideal.

The "coziness" in the upper floor we also associate with sloping ceilings, meaning a 1 1/2-story gable roof house. Although, as has been mentioned several times, this is subjective. We are having a gable roof house built with an interior knee wall height of 1.43 m and a 42-degree roof pitch. This doesn't give you an additional wall to fill with taller furniture, but the 2-meter line is quite close to the edge and you can still put quite a lot underneath it. Therefore, you already have a greater room usability in the upper floor. It naturally gets tight with the furnishing options if you were to choose a very low knee wall height (around 50 cm, for example). We have seen such in various model homes and wondered how one is supposed to properly place furniture in those rooms.

Our house salesperson said during the planning phase that we might also consider a townhouse, which would "not cost much more." While we do find some townhouses really nice, that absolutely wouldn’t have fit with our floor plans (room arrangement, windows/doors aligned vertically, etc.). So we stuck with the 1 1/2-story house and hopefully will be happy with it.

2! x perimeter development? Is that allowed? Usually, you already need a shady corner for garbage, compost, and storage space, so one perimeter development is enough and the other side can be used for the same purpose.

I would choose a nice knee wall of at least 150. Then you have storage space and coziness. I can relate to the cozy feeling under a slope and I agree with . Build according to your gut feeling and not because something is currently trendy. Two-story buildings existed even before the term city villa, but for me it would also be a no-go to build my terrace in front of a two-story wall. Low-pitched roofs are cozy, but you can also create a nice corner with a one-story extension or a patio roof.

I personally don't understand why sloping ceilings are supposed to be cozy. Unfortunately, I grew up with them and am now glad that our current house doesn't have any. The upcoming house won't have any either.

It's simply a matter of taste! When I was a teen - in the new house - I got to choose. Room with or without a slant. I chose the one with a slant. Knee wall ~140. I thought it was the best decision until I moved out. And even today, I still like slants. Of course, within limits! I also love skylights and the pattering sound of rain. Everyone just has to decide for themselves

Definitely. It annoyed me in my childhood room, and when we sleep in my wife's childhood room at my in-laws, the rain on the skylight bothers us too. But sure, to each their own.
