Totally agree.
But I have the feeling that exactly those who spend the least time at home or cooking (rather more at work) don't understand it. For them, the living room traditionally includes the panoramic window, lounge area, TV, and terrace. Gin and tonic included.
I'm taking this personally now – at our place, I'm usually the one who cooks. Still, the panorama from the couch is more important to me than staring into the frying pan anyway. But maybe I'm just misjudging it, since we do have a window in the kitchen.
