Totally agree.
But I have the feeling that exactly those who spend the least time at home or cooking (rather more at work) don't understand it. For them, the living room traditionally includes the panoramic window, lounge area, TV, and terrace. Gin and tonic included.

I'm taking this personally now – at our place, I'm usually the one who cooks. Still, the panorama from the couch is more important to me than staring into the frying pan anyway. But maybe I'm just misjudging it, since we do have a window in the kitchen.

I just want to show why it is disadvantageous to put the garage on the other side. The driveway becomes too big/long and I only lose garden space. It's quite possible that I lose some evening sun, but you have to die from something.

Yes, why? Whether the garage is on the left or right side of the house does not affect the length of the driveway or the garden!!! Who doesn't understand whom here?

Floor plans are aligned to the north so that plans can be read uniformly. I also don't understand why the garage can't be in the northeast.

And we don't understand why the driveway can't be on the northeast corner of the property. Doesn't the street run entirely along the north? Is there a streetlight there? Or a turning platform? Or a green strip like in your Sims picture? If you don't tell us all that, we can't understand!

If the garage is to remain in the west, at least try to reduce the distance to the street to the (often minimally allowed) 5m.

So the footpath as drawn on your floor plan cannot be realized at all? Or just the driveway not?
