Carport or garage, which makes more sense?

So when we’re on vacation, one of the cars is parked in front of the door and one in the garage. No idea – I don’t get the theft argument :D

A colleague always keeps the windows in his garage tilted open – because of moisture. I would never build a garage.

Scraping doesn’t apply with electric cars anyway, since they all have a parking heater. I’m with you, the garage door would annoy me too.

But: If you are someone who likes to tinker or doesn’t even use the garage for the car (neighbor parks outside and the garage is extra storage, piled up with stuff so he can’t even drive in if he wanted to) then build a garage. If you already have doubts, then you’re probably not the garage type.

We have a remote control for the garage door, it stays open until I am standing in front of it. Why should that be annoying?

Modern garage doors even open automatically about 5 cm precisely for this reason, so that air exchange can take place if necessary.

So I think there are many pros and cons for both options. Depending on taste and intended use, garage/carport is better.

We wanted long and tall parking spaces with sun and rain protection. That is why we built the carport, under which the motorhome also fits. Depending on the weather, sometimes one vehicle, sometimes another is parked underneath. Normally, cars do not need weather protection - only tractors and fabric-top vehicles particularly benefit from rainy weather. Otherwise, it is actually us drivers who want to get into snow-free, dry, and not excessively heated vehicles.

Exactly, it completely depends on the use. A carport is sufficient for one car. Very few people use a garage as a pure parking space. It is too valuable and much too expensive for that. For me, a garage is an extended hobby room and a secure storage area. I would never want to buy a house without a garage.

Good considerations, but these are already solved: There is a separate garden shed for tools and bicycles. Storage rooms/workshop are in the house. You don’t have to scrape the windshields in the carport either.
